AdBabel’s Amaseo script - inline aStore
I wrote previously about the simplicity of the aStore not being easily monetisable due to the need to effectively redirect the customers and search engines to Amazon, and therefore not carrying any of that content yourself.
I found an alternative, but unreachable developer (astoreproxy.com) who had created such a tool with some limited opportunity to inject text for the visitor and search engine.
Well, I have found another tool that is available for free that accomplishes much of the same.
The script is Amaseo and is a one-page script that presents two views of your store :
(1) A Frames aware version, and
(2) A non-frames aware version
Both of these are served up as pure HTML, with most visitors seeing version (1), whereas the search engines will reach version (2).
The script allows you to list certain key-words, and when these keywords are found in the content, it will wrap simple HTML tags around them to your specification e.g. <h2></h2> feeding the search engines that extra relevancy to the keywords found on your page. In theory, this should boost your rankings for those keywords on that Amazon page without you needing to do much more in the way of optimisation. Whether that works in practice is another matter.
I have set up a simple demo page here. By viewing the source, you will note the absence of javascript. Furthermore if you should switch off the framing, you should see the words Christmas and Santa bolded in contrast to the frames version (obviously search for a Christmas related DVD first!!).
If you want to download the script and try it yourself, you can find it here.
Adbabel also offers a download version that allows you to integrate multiple country stores, though I have not investigated that yet.
Before I round up, I would say that one possible negative with this approach is that the two versions served up are not identical and could it be considered to be manipulating the search engines and subject to penalty. The fact that a non-frame human visitor will see exactly the same as the search bots SHOULD mean that it is a legitimate approach, but some search engines may not take kindly to the non-frame version content being different to the framed version. Personally, I do not think that this will be an issue as the words are identical, and there are changes only in the formatting.
If you do decide to try Amaseo out, please come back and leave feedback based upon your own results.

Yeah, I have used this script on my store at http://www.1stopgeekshop.com/store and it seems to be working well. I have the same concern about the two versions. I have included it into my sitemap last night so we will see I suppose.
