Affilistore Enhanced 2.6 – Sneak Preview

by David Cameron on April 17, 2009

After the abandonment of releasing v2.5.4, I promised that v2.6 was on the way with some exciting new features helping us towards v3 later in the year.

Now I can do a reveal and give you a sneak preview of the results.

Anyname has set up a site selling cheap wines with a premium theme – Thistle‘ to show off the Affilistore Enhanced platform brilliantly.

The changes may not be obvious, but have a look at this page selling a fine Maçon Chardonnay and see if anything strikes you … if you don’t spot it the BIG but subtle change, then I will tell you later in the post.

Note the refine dropdown: Anyname has optimised for this site to use the dropdown to work on a wine location basis, rather than brand.

Behind the scenes in admin, you now also have an individual feed product count as well as a grand total number of products.

Now back to the BIG change … did YOU spot it?

It may not have hit you between the eyes, but with v2.6 there is a new segregation between the need to have a strict character set for URLsand the product display.

The French language is an ideal one to demonstrate these changes and wine therefore becomes a superb catalogue to demonstrate the leap forward here.

I told you it would be worth the wait and I hope that this aperitíf demonstrates that.

I am now in possession of a Release Candidate and will be testing that out and working with Anyname to get a production version released as soon as we can.

Hi Xavier & Welcome.

For now, the release is private, but I guess that you are getting excited by the thought of a script that accommodates the ’special’ characters.

I (and I am sure Anyname too) would be delighted to see the script translated into other languages and I would be happy to credit translators and to host downloads. Perhaps in the future we will have a language file, but for now the displayed text is scattered throughout the code per the original script, but is not that difficult to locate.

As for your other question about refining by location … i am still experimenting with the new release myself as part of testing. BUT WARNING … the merchants don’t always provide the data in a format you would like and the VERY best results may only be obtained by manipulating the datafeeds manually.

Thanks for your answer. I have also translate directly in the code it’s not difficult but just take time.

For Dropdown by location, for all my feeds i have column with different cities. I would like on compare product page, moving to sort by price, by sorting by cities to refine the search.

Do you think these change is in head.inc.php file ?

Thanks a lot

Hi there …

The release is taking a little lnger than planned because we are making the new character handling more robust.

Cheap Wines shows that off well, but the script is needing some significant re-coding to make it respectful of the different scenarios we may face special characters.

I will check latest status and do a blog post on it.

I have tried a few sites without any apparent problem.

Are you talking about Affilistore or Affilistore Enhanced?

What problems are you seeing?

@Thanks a lot

Need a bit more of a clue. Here is a brand new site at http://www.canteencutlery.co.uk/shop which has still to have any real development i.e. no stylesheet customisation yet and datafeed still to be worked on.

It looks fine to me in Chrome. What is it specifically that you see wrong?
