High Commission Rates; High Earnings or not?

by David Cameron on September 26, 2009

I am in an interesting position sitting here.

I can see your earnings across various Affiliate Networks and how well you are doing … well not for everybody … my initials are DC not DB (Derren Brown I am not!!).

But what I do see are the earnings for those (anonymised) people that have signed up through my own Network affiliate links to give me a small second tier income. One interesting thing has emerged lately that proves that exceptions to that rule still exist.

Until now, I had pretty much retained the theory that high commission rates = don’t waste your time. Why otherwise would merchants offer high commission rates? However, I had previously pointed people towards the sex niche and Paid on Results in particular.

To verify that, I have been looking at my referred affiliates over the last few weeks, I have seen people earning over £50 commission on single sales where the particular affiliate or affiliates have reached over £500 in sales value to achieve a 21% commission tier (£52 commission on a £249.99 sale) with cookies lasting up to 120 days for repeat earnings!! Maybe some of those affiliates would like to comment here on how they have found promotion via Paid on Results?

The few affiliates that I have referred to Paid on Results so far appear to have homed in on the LoveHoney adult merchant who offers a minimum 16% commission rate (in itself appearing generous). But a few sales then take the affiliate to a seemingly incredible 21% top commission rate when £500 aggregate sales have been achieved.

It appears to me that my referred affiliates are actually finding it extremely easy to convert via LoveHoney and Paid on Results .. belieing my usual perception that High Commissions = impossible or difficult conversion.

I still maintain that the usual rule is that High Commission=Low Conversion …. however, do look closeley at the merchant and their product range … exceptions do come up now and again and will be profitable if you can create an engaging site!!
